Tapping (EFT): A Simple Tool for Stress & Emotional Freedom

Have you heard of Tapping, also called EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)? It’s a powerful yet simple mind-body practice that blends ancient Chinese acupressure with modern psychology—sometimes called “acupuncture without the needles.”

By gently tapping with your fingertips on specific meridian points (like around the eyes, collarbone, or hands) while bringing to mind an anxious thought or feeling, you create space to shift out of stress and into a more accepting, grounded, and proactive mindset. This signals safety to your nervous system, lowers stress hormones, and helps you respond with greater clarity and resilience.

What Tapping Can Help With:

  • Stress, overwhelm, or anxiety
  • Cravings and emotional eating
  • Sleep challenges
  • Pain or tension
  • Old emotional patterns that feel “stuck”

How it Evolved:

  • In the 1970s, psychologist Dr. Roger Callahan developed Thought Field Therapy (TFT) after noticing fear could dissolve by stimulating acupressure points.
  • In the 1990s, Gary Craig simplified it into EFT, creating one easy tapping sequence anyone can learn.
  • Today, over 100+ studies show its benefits for stress, PTSD, phobias, pain, and more.

Tapping is empowering because it puts a stress relief tool right at your fingertips—literally. Whether you use it for a big emotional challenge or just to soften daily stress, it’s one of the easiest self-care practices to carry with you anywhere.

Often during my coaching sessions to teach people how to tap we just do the tapping sequence without the wording. When we get done I always ask "how do you feel right now? Anything you notice?" and they usually respond with "I feel a bit more calm and relaxed!"

You can even use it in the middle of the night to calm your racing thoughts and bring you back to sleep.

And for those mom's out there with kids who worry...Tapping is amazing for kids too!

Kindness and a recipe...

Full Capacity Living... This morning I was sitting nearby while my husband had a virtual appointment about his shoulder pain. I half-listened while doing other things — until I realized he wasn’t just answering questions. He was connecting. He does this so well. He values deeper conversations not just surface news, weather and sports and for that I very much appreciate him. At the end of the call, he paused and told the provider how much he appreciated the time he had taken. He said, “I can...
