The Mistake That Changed Women's Health

Full Capacity Living...

In 2002, the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study shook the medical world with headlines claiming that hormone replacement therapy (HRT) increased the risk of breast cancer, heart disease, and stroke. Overnight, millions of women were told to stop their hormones — and many providers followed suit.

But here’s the truth:
The study was flawed. Most participants were in their 60s and 70s, long past the typical age for starting HRT. Many had existing health conditions, making them poor candidates for preventive hormone use.

What the WHI really told us was that starting HRT late in life may carry risks — not that hormones are dangerous for all women. Later analysis revealed that younger women (in their 40s and 50s) who started HRT close to menopause often experienced reduced risks of heart disease and better bone and brain health.

Unfortunately, the damage was done. A generation of women lost access to a therapy that could have helped them thrive through menopause and beyond.

It’s time to revisit the science, correct the record, and empower women with better options.

To be fair...HRT or BHRT is not for all women but here is a very well done interview with Rachel Rubin, MD on the podcast "The Drive" by Peter Attia, MD.

Kindness and a recipe...

Full Capacity Living... This morning I was sitting nearby while my husband had a virtual appointment about his shoulder pain. I half-listened while doing other things — until I realized he wasn’t just answering questions. He was connecting. He does this so well. He values deeper conversations not just surface news, weather and sports and for that I very much appreciate him. At the end of the call, he paused and told the provider how much he appreciated the time he had taken. He said, “I can...
